The Gratitude Filter
by Zan Z. Packard
You are like a vessel in which thoughts and energies are placed. Make sure that you are full of your own wisdom and energies, and no one else's. If you are full enough of what you need, on your own, then the next step is to prepare the filter through which everything flows before coming to you. This filter works both ways depending on which side you view from. As you look outside of yourself, choose the gratitude filter. This is the filter that will allow you to find the goodness and the beauty in even the most challenging circumstances. For without our challenges, how could we ever know how strong and blessed we truly are?
Successful, happy people are the ones who can find the higher purpose in everything in life. No matter what happens, they can find the good that comes from it. That is gratitude. That is being grateful for all the things that come to us as our teachers. These are the lessons that bring us closer to ourselves; closer to our essence; closer to our core. These are the lessons that ultimately only we can learn…alone…and be grateful for the moments of clarity for these gifts.
This is an important strategy to practice. I think we all can grasp the concept that the only thing we can change is ourselves, but sometimes it is easier said than done. This Gratitude Filter technique requires no overt change (you don’t have to stop doing something or start doing something), you just have to be aware of which filter you are viewing your world. If it is not with gratitude, gently make note of that and simply choose to be grateful. Notice when you do that how your own personal energy shifts. It’s a bit softer, a bit more forgiving, a bit more accepting.
Your gratitude filter is the one that will help you enjoy life to its fullest. It’s a choice…which filter will you chose today?
